A pillow to save your face

I stumbled across this on feelunique.com. It's called a 'Save My Face La Petite Satin Pillow Case' and has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever seen (and that's no small feat, I assure you). This warrants further investigations.

I go straight to the source - savemyface.com, and find this;
"The “Save My Face!”® Pillowette is a revolutionary beauty and health product for the 21st Century. It helps prevent wrinkling, improves nasal air flow that permits increased oxygenation of the body, eases aches and pains, and aids in cosmetic surgery recovery."
Not only that, it also "enhances the affects of expensive anti-aging facial creams and serums" and "prevents compression of skin tissues and muscles as well as Sinuses located in the face".

(note: I did not manipulate the font or amount of text set in bold to make it appear more stupid, though I understand why you might think so..)

How impressive is it that a piece of cloth can actually "enhance the affects of expensive anti-aging facial creams and serums"? And what's up with those "Sinuses"... and in what other places than the face does one normally find them? "Oh doctor, I can't move my leg!" "Yes, it appears you have a sinus infection."

For a company claiming to be located in California, I am not impressed.

Though I could be way off here - they do have special pillow doctors. And anyone knows a business with a pillow doctor is a business worth trusting!

Creative Zen X-FI2

I'm in love again!

With a Creative Zen X-FI2 mp3 player, 32gB storage space and a touch screen.

The screen is 3'', perfect for watching movies, with a battery that lasts up to 25 hours.

Only sucks it's a bit too expensive, what with me not having the greatest record of keeping mp3 players alive for too long at a time...

Another Ixus

Because of the funeral I suddenly only had a few days to find a new camera instead of a few weeks. My old Canon Ixus v3 started getting messed up a year ago, and worked on and off until March. Now everything is black and purple and nothing works anymore.

Knowing how it can take me half an hour to decide what shoes to wear, you might imagine the difficulty I've been having here...

Since I only had a few days and it had to be shipped yesterday I just had to go with something simple which still wasn't a waste of money. Since the black Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S980 was nowhere to be found (at least not in time), I decided to go with a Canon Ixus 95 IS instead.

Right now I'm tracking the package through the postal system and if I'm lucky I might even have it tomorrow.

With an 8GB SD-card I can't wait to start taking a million photos!

Grocery Store

There's something about the local grocery store that's been bugging me for a few years now. It's a nice store with a reasonably good selection of groceries.

Which is why it sucks when you stop by to pick up a few items and realize they're out of the most basic things. Or you find things that expired one year(!) ago.

Take today. These things were on my list but I had to leave without them;
  • Parmesan (expiration date of 4 months - should have more in stock)
  • Orange juice (expiration date of 1 year, no refrigeration)
  • Canned tomatoes (how do you run out of things in cans??)
  • Canned tuna (the expiration date is like ten years away!)
  • Toilet paper (...no comment)
  • Chocolate-cake chocolate (all expired a year ago!)
  • Fresh basil (one left, looked like it had a rash, poor thing)
  • Spinach (they rarely have this, and never get it when they say they will)

Am I the only one who finds this puzzling? I understand it might bug me more than the next person, having practically grown up in a grocery store and learnt that this is absolutely unacceptable, but come on!

Supply and demand people, it ain't that hard!

Time to freak out yet?

8 days till my first exam.
I have an eight hour one on Thursday and one lasting five or six on Friday.

After exams I'll be working two weeks, before going home.
I haven't been home since Easter, and it'll be fun to be back there.
Only my parents have redecorated. A lot.
I probably won't know I'm home.

I'll also attend four pre-Christmas parties (Norwegian : julebord) in two weeks.
The first is this Saturday.
Two will be on a boat. We'll be celebrating my mother turning 50, and my aunt's husband will be 60.
We'll be lots of people and we'll be going to Germany and back.

I have to buy new shoes as I don't have dress-up-and-look-pretty-shoes.
I have no time to go shopping.
(never thought you'd hear a girl say that, did ya?)

Another few days and my eye will start twitching..
At least I'll survive no matter what happens.
That's become my new mantra when it comes to exams.
..I'm not sure that's a good thing..

Shopper Exposé

Regarding the topic of a couple previous posts, Shopping and Stripping in the Sunshine and Shopping nude?, namely people who insist on pulling apart the curtains when I'm trying on clothes, exposing my more-or-less naked self to the entire shop.

You people are really starting to get on my nerves!

Is it them or is it me? Why has this just started happening?

At one shop today I'd just got my skirt above my butt, which was sticking out towards the curtains, when someone pulls them apart and looks at me like she couldn't understand it was really possible for someone to be in there, I mean, I didn't scream "I'm here, I'm here!" when she was standing in front of them, how could she know the room was occupied? ...apart from the fact that the curtains were actually closed, that is...

The Sandman told me it seems to be on fashion in the Netherlands to have sex in dressing rooms of various shops, all the sales clerks had caught someone red handed (or red faced which seems to be a more likely assumption).

That would never work for me. I would be caught before I'd even get the clothes off the guy. Or myself. That happens half the time already.

Urbandictionary on Expose:

expose

To expose. To go naked in front of people you don't know. Depending on who you are, this may be a frequent experience.

"That woman's exposing herself!"
"Didn't you do human bio in high school, you nob!? That ain't no woman!"

Shopping nude?

I am a girl, therefore I shop.

Maybe I should make it woman. I am a woman. Technically.... But I don't wanna... I should.. Maybe...

I am female, therefore I shop!

I have seen the inside of a few shops the past month, although I have to admit it's only fun if I find something I like, so if I go through two shops and find nothing, I'm bored. Lately I have found things I've liked, therefore I've had fun shopping!

(I assume you understood I meant shopping for clothes...) When you shop for clothes you (read: girls) try the clothes on before you buy them. I've been doing a bit of that. Unfortunatly, other people have a nasty habit of popping their heads inside the dressing room as I am more or less dressed. Which is fine (kinda), I don't really mind too much anymore. I'm getting used to it.

What I do mind is when the girls (or women) get embarassed. And show it. I don't get embarrassed, I'm used to it. But why should they get embarrassed? All they did was see a half naked gi... female.

I was at shop today, I was trying on a skirt (which was on sale, is gorgeous and safely tied around my waist as we speak). A voice said... some name... and started moving the curtains apart. I said "No..", I smiled, "I think you got the wrong dressing room". What did she do? She started giggling. She found her friends and kept giggling for ten minutes. I don't like giggling girls.

What has the world come to if we're embarrassed to see an almost naked body? More embarrassed than others are to show it? We feel more comfortable putting on clothes than taking them off, being naked is unnatural and underwear is a must!

I say throw out the underwear! Let's show each other who we are and not hide behind layers of cotton and silk! Let's all be nude!

I might have to get used to that one... When I've walked across the floor,my new skirt's halfway down my butt...

Shopping and Stripping in the Sunshine

I went shopping today.

That's right, I went shopping. I don't do that a lot but when it's summer and hot outside, really "fry an egg on the pavement" hot, and when I actually find things I like, then I love shopping. The past two days have been like that.

Yesterday I found the most gorgeous bra ever. It was of some sort of lace like fabric, black pinkish brown (looks better than it sounds) and a little see through. It's absolutely perfect! Only thing was it was too small. I looked through all the H&M shops in the city but I didn't find it anywhere else.

I decided to try it on again and see if it would work anyway. I also picked out a bit more underwear (mostly black lace) and headed to the dressing rooms. The first one right inside the door was vacant so I went in and stripped down to my panties (the weather being as hot as it is, it didn't take much undressing).

I tried the 'perfect bra' first, and the thongs that went with it. I was just admiring it in the mirror when I heard a girl's voice and "maybe this one is vacant!".

Whoosh goes the curtain, I hear two girls' voices and a surprised "ohhh.... sorry!" then nervous giggling while they run off - neglecting to close the curtain. And there I am, in the perfect undewear, standing in the only place from which I am visible to the entire shop. Which is full of costumers.

Fan-bloody-tastic.

I closed the curtain and hoped not too many witnessed my involentary striptease. I tried on the rest of the underwear and not until now did I realize I didn't even get embarassed... I'll just put that down to the fact that I'm more than ready for someone to see me in my underwear, not to say nothing at all [yes, it's been a while]

I bought a little bit of this and a little bit of that, what it all had in common was that it was all clothes I really need. I even got two jackets, I don't have a jacket so I needed those. One is weird in the back and the other I can't close but they were cheap and worth the money.

Underwear. Check.
Other clothes. Check.
Bag. Check.

I then started the walk home in the sunshine, hot as hell, and loving it, two bags in each hand. An old man, your typical grandfather type, came towards me on the street and stopped straight in front of me. This was our conversation.

Man: Now you can't do anything.
Me: Huh?
Man: *gesturing towards my hands*
Man: You have bags in both your hands. I could do anything to you [in a friendly way, not creepy]
Man: I could even give you a hug if I wanted to. *strokes my cheek*
Me: *putting on the most innocent looking face you've ever seen and leaning away*
Man: *smiles and walks away*

...
Sometimes you meet the strangest people.
...

I'm so glad it's summer!

Did I mention it was HOT today?

2006

Five days of the new year have passed and I have barely got my butt out of bed. I'm going back to Bergen bright and early Sunday morning. University starts Monday but the first week consists of one information meeting per subject, each lasting about an hour. I have to go back to Bergen to go to Uni for three hours.

Some of the time I won't spend at school (the remaining 37 hours of a normal work week) will be spent shopping. I don't want to but I've become painfully aware that I need some clothes. I hate shopping in winter, it's just depressing, but I really need a jacket, some pairs of trousers and a sweater or something... And rubber boots. When it rains in Bergen there is no other kinds of shoes that are able to keep your feet dry. I've lived there for a year and a half and I still haven't bought any. I'm sick of having to put all my clothes, including socks and underwear, up to dry when I get in. I should get a raincoat too.

Start the new year spending a ton of money I don't have. Shop till you drop. What about people who can't afford to buy rubber boots or a rain coat? What about those who have to wear the same clothes every day because they don't have anything else? People who spend all their money on food and are still hungry 24/7. Do we ever stop to think about them? Then again, thinking about it isn't going to help much. Is it now?

My fingers are cold. So are my toes. My fingers and toes are always cold. I don't understand why... that's supposed to happen to people who smoke. I'll blame it on second hand smoke. Or bad blood circulation? I'll go with the first since "bad circulation" sounds too much like someone who's sick. I'm not sick. Plus, blaming another thing on the nicotine addicts will be another argument for the abolisment of smokers. Not smoking. Just smokers. We'll simply extinguish you.*

This is gonna be a good year!
