Too many thoughts

I have too many thoughts in my head to be able to put even a single one of them down in writing. They're about anything and anyone, and a few probably wouldn't be appropriate to put on here. You never know who might read it, and for some reason I've stopped typing out every random thought in my head.

I'll try and figure out something worthwhile to say, and in the mean time I'll leave you with this; a series of photos from Kappadokia, Turkey. Google has been kind enough to translate the accompanying article for us (I recommend reading it if you like the photos) but I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves, don't you?

Autumn - while waiting for spring

My favourite photo from October.

I loved how the flowers stood their ground for weeks, born from bud to flower when it should have been too cold, when reason said they should have frozen. They grew, sensing winter coming, not ready to give up their colours but holding their little heads high.. before finally succumbing to the frost, the cold and the darkness.

Snow. Oh boy.

The first snow this autumn came last night.

Maybe it's just as well I never got around to packing up my scarves...

Relations in a small town

And I'm talking about the sexual kind.

In a town where everybody knows each other, how do relationships occur? In a town where you rarely meet someone new, how do relationships change? How do you start seeing someone you've known most of your life in a different way?

A few incidents have spiked my interest lately, suffice to say I've come across some interesting cases - some being quite harmonious, others not so much. Interestingly enough, the cases are all connected and involve a member of my extended family (it really is a small town), which means I hear more about it than I probably should. Still I wonder...

How is it you go from seeing someone as the parent of your child's friend, to sleeping with them? Are you attracted to each other all along? Does something happen so you suddenly get attracted? Or do you just figure the choice is so limited you gotta take what you can get?

To quote an acquaintance from a few years back, when numbers of divorces in town (formerly the lowest in Norway) suddenly went through the roof;
"When one starts, the others follow. They're afraid to miss out on the eligible bachelors. Now all these newly single women in their forties are fighting over the same few desirable men."

Keeping the relationship a secret does not seem to be an option here. I've heard enough of "What is she doing going there again? / His car comes from there every morning!" to know people do pay attention. Is sneaking around even possible in a small town?

But it's not the who that is interesting to me, it's the how. How do you start seeing someone differently; how do you start a relationship with someone you know?

How do you sleep with someone you've known for years? Or rather (since I'm pretty sure we know how the how in sex works;) what is it like?

Sexual relations in a small town... it's kinda fascinating being on the outside looking in.

Cherries

I've never seen this many in the tree before, we picked several buckets yesterday, 18 kilo, and that's just a fraction of what's up there.

What do you do with a million cherries?

Almost time to go...

900 kilometers, the distance traveled every summer until I was 10. Five of us in the car, all the kids grown up now.

When we were younger, before my sister was born 16 years ago, my brother and I used to sleep in the back seat while our parents drove all night.

Lying there we'd squint our eyes and turn our heads from side to side making the street lights look funny when we passed Trondheim in the dark, knowing we were half-way there.

That little island always meant
summer. It's a home away from home,
a little piece of paradise. At least for me.

Happy times...

Test Shots

I *think* I like my new camera.
And I don't think I've ever seen a lil green bug's eyes before...

Working together - winter pics

During Christmas my sister and I found out that working together works best - even when taking photos.

...........
No flash ....................................Flash....

Working together

For the last one we used my sister's camera to make the flash, and my camera to take the photo without actually using the flash on that camera.

Of course, if either of us had a proper camera like real photographers do, we wouldn't have needed to mess around like that. Then again, neither of us are photographers and we did had fun, so I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

View from a bridge

We were out skiing, which for me only happens once a year, when we came across this. The picture is taken same place as these three years ago. We always go there during Easter, but I've never noticed this before.

Times of year

A guy I used to know showed me this picture and told me how he loved it - and how he looked forward to going to Trondheim, where the picture was taken.

A year later I found myself back in town and I wondered what it would look like during summer. Not quite so magical, but I guess magic is something which exist in our hearts and is hard to recreate with a camera.

Arc du Triomphe

One day in June Ben, a British guy, came to visit. We were walking around Paris - he wanted me to show him the sites - when we came to the Arc de Triomphe. Some men were trying to get this huge flag to hang just right. They started by pulling it out of a big bag, we didn't have a clue what it was until we started seeing the three colours of the tricolore.

It was blowing like crazy and the flag was sweeping the floor of the entire Arc before they caught hold of it. By then it had tipped over the markings, the flowers and candles of the Tombe du Soldat inconnu and the eternal flame burning there.

I could swear they were about to extinguish the whole thing, wouldn't that be symbolism for you - the French flag itself putting out a symbol of eternal life. Maybe even the flag itself catching fire.

However, such an historic event did not take place. They hoisted the thing up and it waved in the wind, harming nobody, looking good like a good flag should.

I found the explanation as to why the flag was there in the first place quite funny. I heard they put it up there each time the French football (soccer) team played a match in the European Championship (Euro 2004).

Whether that was true or not I couldn't say but I liked the explanation and knowing the French, I wouldn't be altogether surprised if it was true.

Heia Brann, Heia Brann!

Easter is over and The Guy brought me along to my first football match ever!
(that's soccer to you foreigners)

He likes saying it was my first football match, as if I don't know anything about the sport.

I think it makes him feel more like a man... and maybe he thinks it makes me more of a stereotypical woman if I don't know much about sports. I believe it has been quite a while since he learned I'm not a stereotypical woman, but that doesn't keep him from dreaming!

Anywho.. the team is Brann and in Bergen it's mandatory to be a fan. The opposing team was Strømsgodset and the result? 3-1 to Brann. Of course.

Now all they need is to keep up their winning streak for, oh, another six months (this was their second game this season). Then they might win gold in the series. Maybe.

For more pics, among them a lucky one of the winning goal being scored (took me a while to figure out where the ball was), check out appleshots.

Back in town

It's been a while... I kinda wish summer lasted longer, I never want summer to end, school to start, not seeing my family until Christmas.

Summer's over. The berries at home are almost ready to be picked. The cherries are all gone and the plums are weighing heavy on their branches.

This time my brother came with me though, our parents drove us down during the weekend. He's going to some "computer school" and got an appartment with some friends.

It's a rather long walk from here and I won't be going there a lot cuz I'm not quite sure I'm invited... Except if I bring food. If I bring food I can probably visit whenever I want.

The city is hot and dusty. The leaves have started falling off the trees and the nights are dark again. Winter is coming closer with dark days and storms.

I'm hoping for thunder and lightning. I have a feeling this autumn is going to be like none before it.

Miss me?

This is where you'll find me.

Don't worry, I'm not dead yet!

If I were to write about everything I've done since last time, I'd postpone it until March. That's why I'm just gonna say I've been on holiday and came home from Trondheim two weeks ago.

Since then I've been to my cousin's wedding, the first I've ever been to.

Then I climbed a few mountains and basically just enjoyed the sunshine.

I'll try and put up a few pics of this, that and the other. I think I have some nice ones, I'm just too lazy to dig them out of their folders and explain what's in them.

I'll leave you with a pic of the kitten. The only word I need for her is "adorable".
