Barbie's always been skinny, it's not that. Tall, blonde, long legs - and a small waist. But look at that waist! Where did the curves I remember from my childhood go?
I've always had Barbie dolls, I had a ton of clothes for them, a huge three story doll house my godfather gave me. Complete furniture for kitchen, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, you name it. Having a ton of aunts and uncles is a lot of fun for a little girl! (don't worry, I grew out of the materialism when the number of cousins rose over 20 and we no longer got individual presents).
So I guess I know what I'm talking about when I say that Barbie dolls did not use to be this skinny. They looked more like the girl in pink here. Still skinny, still long legs and blonde hair, but without the weird looking waist the blue one has.If it continues like this, I'm a little worried Barbie will lose all her curves. I like curves, nothing like a girl with a beautiful hourglass figure. Skinny clothes hangers on catwalks with bones sticking out rarely look good.
So what's next for Barbie? The guys over at WAYODD.com have a suggestion. Anorexic Barbie.

That last one is disturbing. My goodness! To be honest, I don't see much difference between the first two Barbies. I think their waists have always been curvy - small at the top and wider towards the hips.
ReplyDeleteI used to think that all women started out with that shape and grew a bit fat round the waist once they got older. I started out with an hourglass shape and expected it to vanish once I'd had kids. It didn't. And I continue to eat right and exercise. HOwever, now I know that most girls start out with a very boyish, straight figure. I was just one of the unusual ones.
You really can't see the difference between this waist and the other one? She looks like she'll snap like a twig, poor thing! :)
