Smelling laundry

You know what's not good?

When you're trying a new laundry detergent and realize it's the same one an ex used. And that all your clothes now smell like him.

There's nothing that takes me back to a time and place like a smell. Close your eyes and drift off, imagining you're somewhere else. Back in the happy place the memories created. Smells and voices, my two big weaknesses.

But this time I'd rather not go.
This time I want the smell to be just a smell. Not a memory.

It's time to try an entirely new brand, I think.

Scent is scientifically documented to be a huge component in "pair bonding" and attraction. There are also studies that show that attractive people tend to smell better.

I can attest to these characteristics at least anecdotally. The scent of laundry detergent was not part of my experience however! What I remember most about my first true love was the way she smelled and how much I loved it. Her skin, her clothes, our bed. I loved the way she smelled and it had nothing to do with man made chemicals or detergents. It comes back vividly as I think of it.

  2. I get that sometimes too.. smells, whether it's people, the smell of the city, clothes or flowers... they can just knock me off my feet, at least when they take me back to years gone past, and happy memories.
