Afghanistan legalizes domestic rape?

A new law for the Shia Muslims of Afghanistan, making up 20% of the total population, states that it is illegal for a woman to refuse her husband sex.

It will also be illegal for a woman to leave the house, see a doctor, or get a job without her husband's permission.

Nothing strange about the last part, many Muslims abide by rules Europeans and Americans would never tolerate in this day and age. But, as Jan Egeland, former UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator stated;

"you cannot expect a tribal society to move from middeaval laws to becoming Switzerland or Norway in only a few years".

Still, the global society is reacting - it seems cultural relativism only goes so far when it comes to making rape the accepted norm - whether or not it is considered as such in a given society.

Saudi Arabia: Why we punished rape victim

The Saudi Justice Ministry Tuesday issued a "clarification" of a court's handling of a rape case and the increased punishment -- including 200 lashes --meted out to the victim.

The case, which has sparked media scrutiny of the Saudi legal system, centers on a married woman. The 19-year-old and an unrelated man were abducted, and she was raped by a group of seven men more than a year ago, according to Abdulrahman al-Lahim, the attorney who represented her in court.

The woman was originally sentenced in October 2006 to 90 lashes. But that sentence was more than doubled to 200 lashes and six months in prison by the Qatif General Court, because she spoke to the media about the case, a court source told Middle Eastern daily newspaper Arab News.

Al-Lahim told CNN his law license was revoked last week by a judge because he spoke to the Saudi-controlled media about the case.

"Currently she doesn't have a lawyer, and I feel they're doing this to isolate her and deprive her from her basic rights," he said. "We will not accept this judgment and I'll do my best to continue representing her because justice needs to take place."

The man and woman were attacked after they met in Qatif on the kingdom's Persian Gulf coast, so she could retrieve an old photograph of herself from him, according to al-Lahim. Citing phone records from the police investigation, al-Lahim said the man was trying to blackmail his client. He noted the photo she was trying to retrieve was harmless and did not show his client in any compromising position.

It is illegal for a woman to meet with an unrelated male under Saudi's Islamic law.

Raped in Bergen.

This weekend three women were raped in Bergen.
The police are looking for five men.

One woman was raped by two men. The second was dragged into some bushes on Bryggen, Bergen's most famous tourist spot. One guy raped her while the other held watch. The third was raped with a knife against her throat.

Three rapes like these are a lot for Bergen. All of last year there were only two where women were attacked by people she didn't know. Now there's three in a weekend..


Is it just me or does this happen each year when the students get back to town? I remember thinking "Is this what living in the city is like?" three years ago when I moved here, and it clearly hasn't gotten any better since then.


Incidents where women are attacked and raped by an unknown perpetrator have been extremely rare in Norway, but even this year we've seen an amazing increase.


It still makes me mad but I do feel I'm getting used to it. That's what happens - we get used to it, we're no longer shocked to hear these things. What do we do not to get desensitized?

One woman was raped at a spot I walk past every week.
Another where thousands of tourists walk past each day.
The third was seen by several witnesses, but the guy said she was his girl while he held a knife to her throat.

All you have to do is to put yourself in their situation. Take five minutes and picture it happening to you.


How bout next weekend we all form a posse and walk around town with home made castration devices?

Swedish police...

...is looking for an older man who tried to rape a 4 year old girl.

The man exposed himself, then tried to rip the clothes off the girl. Something distracted him and he ran off. Police were looking for him with dog patrols and a helicopter.

The girl was in good shape and was not physically hurt.



What the hell is wrong with people?!?

To Rape or Not to Rape

A 38 year old Algerian refugee has in Stavanger, Norway, been jailed for two weeks, charged with the rape of a 13 year old girl.

The girl and a young boy stayed with the man in his appartment last Friday night. The charge is partially based on the young boy's statement.

Both the boy and the girl had told the man the girl was 18 year old, something he believed, and which the court has taken into concideration. It was the girl's legal guardians who reported the alleged rape.

The boy claims the girl was raped.
The girl says she had sex with the man, but it was not a rape.
The man claims nothing sexual happened.


-- not to take away from the importance of punishing those who commit crimes such as these (if this were, in fact a crime), but is there any wonder nothing gets done in a lot of cases when the parties involved can't even almost agree?

This was the message the 13 year old gave to the police over the phone. She had then managed to escape the appartment where her 12 year old friend was lying dead.

The 13 year old girl was seriously injured after having been raped and stabbed by a 26 year old man.

The dreadful family tragedy happened in an appartment a little south of Stockholm, Sweden, Friday night.

The two girls, best friends, were babysitting the 12 year old's little brother with the man, expressen.se writes.

The girls were going to have pizza and the 13 year old was staying over, the girl told friends.

But the evening took a sudden turn when the step father called the 12 year old into her younger brother's room.

It is at this time uncertain whether he raped her, before he killed her, stabbing her several times, before the eyes of the six year old boy.

He then attacked the 13 year old friend.

- Will kill you tomorrow

After having stabbed the girl with the knife, he made her take off her clothes.

- Take your clothes off, we're gonna fuck, are the words he used, according to aftonbladet.se.

He then stabbed the girl several times threatening to kill her.

- I'm going to kill you too, but I'm going ot wait until tomorrow. Then I'm going to kill myself, he told her.

After that the 26 year old went to sleep. He forced the 13 year old to lie down next to him. She escaped as soon as he fell asleep.

- Like a buther's house

The man was still sleeping when the police came to the appartment. The sight which met them was dreadful.

- It looked like a buther's house, one police officer said.

The 26 year old, still sleeping, was covered in blood. When the police woke him up, he was disturbed.

- I've been fighting with wolves, I think I killed one of them, he told the police, according to aftonbladet.se.


The police assumed he was in a psychosis. The man is known to mix rohypnol and liqueur, and is previously convicted of a crime.

He was taken away, chained on hands and feet.

In the same room as the man was his six year old son still asleep. The boy has now been taken care of by the child services.

Denies it

The 13 year old girl has had surgery and is now stable.

- She's had surgery and is as well as can be expected, considering the circumstances, says the girl's grandmother to aftonbladet.se

The 26 year old denies having performed the acts. He says he remembers nothing of what happened in the appartment.

- He is a bad mental state, says his lawyer Bo Hegestam.

A Little Girl in a World of Evil

What do you do when you're so angry all the muscles in your body tighten and there's nothing you can do about it? I used to get that a lot before, watching the news on tv, reading the newspaper, going through an article. There's just so much evil in this world. I'm as far away from it as anyone could possibly get but every time I saw or read something like that I'd just notice every muscle in me tense up.

It's been a while since I got that but today it came back. I read about an 11 year old Danish girl. Today the 8th man was arrested for a.. sexual assult, if you will. Her father, one among the eight, hired her out to pedophiles who had sex with her. Four men have already been convicted of buying her at age 10, and four more awaiting their trail.

What can possibly cause someone to behave in this way? Seven men, at least, paid to have sex with a 10 year old girl. Her own father handed her over. What is it I'm not seeing here? What is it that can make some people find this acceptable when the rest of us want to beat the crap out of them?

I don't know how long they'll stay in prison but I hope it's long. Rape sentencing in Norway is a joke, four years for gang raping a 12 year old, that's what people get around here. I hope Denmark does better. Something like this, and particularly what the father did, is the closest I'll ever get to agreeing with having a death penalty. But I guess someone has to die first and this girl didn't.

She's 11. She's eleven years old. She's a little kid. Where does she go from here?

Police raid finds 19 women held as 'sex slaves'

Nineteen women from eastern Europe thought to have been tricked into becoming sex slaves have been rescued during police raids.

A task force of female officers from West Midlands Police were sent to a massage parlour in Birmingham to free the women on Thursday.

Two people, believed to be customers, were detained during the operation, and one sawn-off shotgun recovered. Three people - a 40-year-old woman from Brierley Hill and two men who were believed to be managers - were arrested.

A force spokesman said: "The women are believed to be of eastern European origin and were tricked into the sex industry.

"They had their passports taken. They were locked into the venue during the evening to work and taken away during the day and locked in a house."

The raids took place at Cuddles massage parlour in Birmingham at 7pm.

You read about women being forced to become prostitutes. You read about women who can't afford not to be a prostitute. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why women choose this profession, and even more reasons why they're being forced into the industry. But the fact that women do their job practically chained to the bed... that's something we don't hear much about.

This happens all the time. Sex sells and not just when you put it in a music video or on the cover of a magazine. Sex is being sold and bought like any other product. It's an industry! Many women are being forced to do this. We know about it. Why aren't we doing anything?

What if these were men? What if men were being forced to have sex. I'm sure there are men who might say "yes please!" at the thought of that but seriously... If men were forced to take their clothes off and perform whatever acts the person standing over them is telling them to do... What then? I'm getting certain images of a certain prison playing around in my head.

It's just about money isn't it?

Another rape?

Yet another girl has been raped here. This time it was on 'the hill', the area around the Uni that would have been our campus if we had one. A few months ago a 19 year old student was raped by a man she met on the bridge (yes, that bridge) and a couple days before, or after, a woman was attacked by a different man. He ripped her blouse but she was screaming and a guy came running and got the man off her, by then he was already lying on top of her on the ground.

This time it was a 24 year old woman who was pulled into the toilets at the HF-faculty (History and Philosophy). No one seems to be quite sure if it was a 'rape' or a 'sexual assault' or something in between, the girl has left the city and hasn't reported it, but the police has started their own investigations.

I don't know what's going on but I know I don't like it.
Is this what living in the city is supposed to be like?
Scary either way.

About bloody time!
I don't like the death penalty. I don't agree with it. It's not ok to kill no matter how you do it. I don't think you can have laws that say you can't kill, but if you do, then we can kill you. The law should be the same for everyone - even the state, government, the president or whoever. You might say killers go to prison and live comfortably, get an education and then they might get out and lead a good life.

Do I think a murderer can change? Depends what kind of person he or she is. Someone who kills children "just because I can"... some people just don't feel guilt. They don't understand why they shouldn't do it and I'm not talking about being... what's the correct term here... mentally challenged? Is that a term? I'm not talking about that, with some people there's just something in their brain that doesn't connect - they don't understand that this is bad. Like some people can't feel heat or cold. Something isn't like it should be.

They're dangerous to society. But should we kill them? I know that if someone I knew and love were killed, I might have changed my mind. But then I would let my emotions judge and that usually isn't very smart. Maybe that would be a better way though... Let the family of the victim do what they want to the killer for an hour. Or better yet, let's do to the killer what he/she did to his/her victim(s). Or isn't that what we're doing now?

I think someone who is capable of killing must somehow be capable of justifying it to themselves. There are lots of reasons why people kill and I don't know what is worse. To plan it and do it then get rid of the body and all evidence or just randomly pick someone on the street. I've always thought the second is worse, you don't have a reason. But do you have a reason just because you plan it?

Looking for something on the Supreme Court's decision I came across the page murdervictims.com. On a link I found this passage (don't read if you're feeling nauseaus);


"For the next hour or so, these beautiful, innocent young girls were subjected to the most brutal gang rapes that most of the investigating officers had ever encountered. The confessions of the gang members that were used at trial indicated that there was never less than 2 men on each of the girls at any one time and that the girls were repeatedly raped orally, anally and vaginally for the entire hour. One of the gang members later said during the brag session that by the time he got to one of the girls, "she was loose and sloppy." One of the boys boasted of having 'virgin blood' on him."


Now... I just have to repeat this sentence;

"there was never less than 2 men on each of the girls at any time and that the girls were repeatadly raped (...) for the entire hour".

This is when I wanna puke (and I don't do that a lot). There were six of them, five were sentenced to death. The sixth was 14 years old. He wasn't there for the murders, he was sent away because he was "too little to watch". The girls were 14 and 16. Too young to watch but not too young to die.


So what's the answer? What's the solution that should be written and read and printed and learned? There isn't one. You won't stop crime by punishing. Not in our society. Do people not kill anymore because they fear getting caught? I don't know, do they? If only people, all people, could realize everybody has the same right to life then it wouldn't be a problem. If only...
