The Guy With The Latex Sheets

A couple years ago I was at work at the mall in Bergen. I walked past some guys, one had a microphone in his hand and wondered if he could ask me some questions. I didn't have the time, I had to hurry back to work.

I walked up the stairs and the guy came running after me. He seemed nice, if a little pushy and a bit older than me. His microphone was shoved in his back pocket. When we got to the shop he said he needed some help. He was looking for sheets, you see.

Sheets. Right. We had plenty of those. He asked if we had any in latex.
"You know, because things can get a bit messy sometimes" *wink wink*. Yeah... no sorry, we didn't have any of those. At that, he made a flirty comment I can no longer remember, and left.

I thought of that guy again today when I was reading a post on a Norwegian blog about sex toys, body paint, massage oil and the like. The oil always seemed so messy to me - how do you manage to play around with the sticky stuff without leaving stains all over? The solution may be getting a latex sheet.

It is kinda hard to be spontaneous if you have to change the sheets before you start though... anybody got any better ideas?

As for the guy, I saw him again a week later. He was jogging past the building where I lived as I came outside. He stopped fifty yards up the road, just outside the window of the apartment, bent down and fiddled with his shoes until I'd passed him, which was when I recognized him.

I'm sure if he lived in the neighbourhood I'd seen him many times before.. it only took a microphone and a few comments about latex sheets for me to notice him (I wouldn't recommend that as a pick up line though, it probably won't have the desired effect!).

Or who knows, maybe he was a secret agent spying on me from the place I worked and outside the apartment. He probably had a tiny camera and binoculars with him, and there's a thick dossier on me on someone's desk somewhere...

A jogging latex spy.
I like!

Bye Bye Bergen

I just paid the final electricity bill for the apartment in Bergen.

I'm really going to miss that place..
..and I feel just a little bit lost right now.

Bergen goodbye

Yesterday I packed up my umbrellas, threw out my rubber boots and left Bergen for the last time.

The city decided to give me its very best send off - what is more Bergen than days on end of pouring rain? It followed us through the night, all the way home, and doesn't seem to be leaving any time soon.

Five years is a long time...

Visiting Work

I stopped by (ex)work before leaving Bergen. Some of the girls are still there, some have moved on.

One of my former colleagues had left. She'd met a guy online and moved to another part of the country.

I started wondering... hadn't she been married? But it wasn't until I left that I remembered she'd been living with a guy I'd met a lot of times. They had a couple of teenage kids together.

I would never in a million years have thought she was the kinda person who would do something like that. Of course, I don't know what has happened the year I've been gone.

Still, I am beyond shocked right now... (and really really wishing I'd have remembered it earlier so I could have gotten the whole background story from the girls!)

Maybe those people are right - the internet is a dangerous place!

New Flatmate

She's a little tall, pretty thin, bushy hair, kinda cute and six years younger than me. (When did I get this old??)

She doesn't say much, I'm guessing confidence comes with age and apparently I'm old enough to intimidate the younger ones. Guess it gotta be a little scary, being a new student in a new city. When I moved here we were all new so that wasn't really an issue.

She seemed nice (from the six words she spoke) so hopefully things will work out with the two guys.

Wonder who will move into my room next week...

Guys!

I usually prefer having guys as flat mates. Guys tend to make less of a mess than girls, and they're easier to talk to. And they take way less time in the bathroom!

Then I come back here a week after the others. I share a bathroom with one guy, which was never a problem. Last night I went to brush my teeth and what did I see...

The toilet bowl is covered in shit. Literally covered. Going way up the back side of the bowl. How do you even hit that spot?? And how does it stick?

In only ten days alone, no one to see what goes on in the bathroom, he managed to do that. It has never looked anything like that when I'm around. Ever. Makes you wonder what toilets the world over look like when the women are away...

Getting outta town

Going back to Bergen in a few days to pack the rest of my stuff and bring it all home.

I'm looking forward to spending a week in the city, although I did get bored with it in the end, I did live there for five years. It'll be strange to leave.

As for right now, I just wish something exciting would happen. But I guess life doesn't really get more exciting than you make it yourself. What to do, what to do... :)

Packing

I'm packing my room into suitcases, boxes and plastic bags.

As usual I have way too much stuff.

... I can't wait to get home!

Such a perfect day...

It's sunny, warm (25C in the shade), just enough wind not to make it scorching.

I'm finishing up things for school, running around town sorting things out. But right now I'm doing nothing, just sitting on the veranda, enjoying my last days in Bergen.

Monday I'll be going home. I should be packing, but I just can't get myself to do it quite yet. Means I have to leave.

Forest Fire

I'd been wondering why the city looked so blurry from my window today when I could smell smoke. With summer, heat and dry days comes forest fires and there's one not far from the city.

Fire fighters say it's out of control and they can only hope it won't spread down the mountain to the houses below. Luckily we don't have the big fires they have in Australia and California so it probably won't do much damage to anything other than the woods.

The air seems a lot clearer now, the wind must be blowing the other way but the fire is still spreading. Good thing the dry days are over for now - it's supposed to start raining today and keep doing so for a few days. Perfect timing.

June

The weekend's been hot.

I've been inside writing a paper.

It's warm.

Now there's a hail storm.

I hope the hail will melt.

What's June without weird weather?

Missing: Father and Son

Three Norwegians were on the missing Air France plane and the names have been released. Among the missing are a father and his son. Why does the name Karsten Moholt sound so familiar?

It must be because it's the name of the company next door. I see it every single time I look out my window, and I've heard them working all day and all night the five years I've lived here.

It's eerily quiet down there today.

...and I just broke another glass...

Actually it sorta flew right across the room.

It was kinda weird.

How come I always break the glasses I like, and never the ones I don't like?

Maybe it's the universe's way of saying it's time to leave town...

Cherries & White Wine

My nail polish matches this year's first cherries.

Or "morello" as they call it here.

Pretentious suckers... I don't care, it's still a cherry.

Sure, I'd love to sleep with my doctor!

Not that it's an option.

I've just met the guy. A few times. He seems very stressed, has no nurse or secretary and keeps patients waiting for hours.

His hair is starting to turn grey, he laughs at what I say (not in a good way) and he seems to know what he's doing, while having no clue what to do next.

And I'm not even gonna tell you what he did to me last week!

He's Yummy!

Exquisite.

My flatmate. There's no other word for her. She's tall, thin, a brunette. She's gorgeous.

(sorry bout the copyrighted photo, I couldn't find one quite as perfected without the big X)

Right now she's on the veranda, wearing huge sun glasses (no, I'm not spying, my great view of the city also includes a great view of the veranda.. and their great view of me..) with a guy I can only assume is her boyfriend. Although not the boyfriend she had six months ago, I think this one is new.

He's wearing funny shorts and just took his shirt off.

...and there he put it back on...

I kinda feel sorry for the guy - all he must want to do is get her in the sack. And there he is, stuck out on our veranda. Reading. Pretending to concentrate. When all he can think of is getting her naked.

Bergen Car Crash

I can't help but think, "Where's the rest of the car?!"

But that's it. It's all there.

It got crushed between a truck and the mountain side today. Miraculously the 33 year old woman driving the car sustained only minor injuries. The police says she must have a guardian angel - no one ever survives something like that.

I've never been in a car crash. The closest I've come was once when my dad backed into a tree, and once in high school during our russ celebration (our car was so robust you could barely see a scratch in the paint... the other car looked a little worse).

In the news you only really hear of the people who die in accidents so for once it's good to hear of one that went well. I can't imagine what it must be to be so close to dying, getting out of something like that alive, even without serious injuries... One of those life changing incidents, maybe?

Family Visit

The family came to visit this weekend, bringing my brother's stuff here, and taking some of mine back home.

It's always fun when they come; time to go shopping, and whatever else is going on just has to wait for a few days. Especially when my sis stays at my place - after two minutes(!) in my room it looked like a tornado had swept through.

It's getting closer to summer and Bergen is a great city to be walking around in when the nights are warm and bright - there's people everywhere, short distances. It's starting to dawn on me I might actually miss this place...

The family has just left, I'm gonna check the news and I do believe I have a couple emails I need to answer :)

Playing Tour Guide

I got to play tour guide again last week when a friend came over from Scotland. We walked around for a couple days, the sun even came out and the view from Fløyen, this tiny little mountain, was great (no clouds!).

It's been a while since I stayed up half the night talking, and I already miss the ravioli with spinach and cheese in spinach-cream sauce at this little place called Baran (which really needs a new design for its page..).

Now I just need to figure out a way to make the IKEA-bed fit back into the storage room, and how to fix the springs of my own.

Good times.
